Can you give some solid thoughts & advice to the folks?

I don't have any inside info on this one - have not seen any cases or been involved with any of the track outbreaks. I've only seen the recent (late Sept) press releases and read the CDC conference notes like everyone else. My $.02 :

The percentages dead are so small (none at tracks that took swift care of their greyhounds, up to 12 at tracks that didn't) that it wouldn't stop me personally (not that I'm bringing dogs - I'll be on crutches myself).

Most adopters would take their dog to a vet if it got sick so I feel that the chances of a pet dying are pretty slim (vs.some racing kennels won't spend the money or try to hide that their kennel has a problem).

Still, everything is a risk and personal decision depending on individual risk adversity. The last track outbreaks were 4-5 months ago and it hasn't hit any of the other greyhound gatherings.

Recent articles have said that the virus has infected dogs elsewhere besides greyhound tracks but gave no specific examples. It would be nice to know, say, if it did hit a boarding kennel, what happened. Or if it did hit a dog show, what happened. Unfortunately, we are not going to have all the answers in a week's time.
